Barkha Pridhnani Malhotra (IG: @m.barkha31) and Shaurya Malhotra (IG: @noddymalhotra) had always envisioned a wedding in Bangkok to be a feast for the senses. Their wedding, a unique blend of shared heritage but vastly different upbringings, had various distinct events, each with their own vibe.
How did you blend the different cultural elements and incorporate them to your special day?
We envisioned lots of themes that gave our guests a glimpse of our backgrounds and us. Shaurya’s background is Hong Kong and Guangzhou, China, while Barkha’s is Jakarta. We would say everything we wanted for our wedding made it into the big day. Starting from the beautiful Anand Karaj wedding to the Chinese themed reception and our entrance into the ballroom with the auspicious Chinese lion and dragon dance.
What made you decide to celebrate your wedding in Thailand and why did this particular venue feel like the one?
The Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park hotel offers a diverse selection of venues, including grand ballrooms, smaller breakout rooms for more intimate gatherings, and even a rooftop bar for a stylish cocktail party. This allowed us to host all the events in one location without it feeling repetitive.
Looking back, which moments from the wedding truly stayed with you?
The most memorable part of our wedding had to be the Anand Karaj. An Anand Karaj focuses on the equality of the man and woman, who are seen as two bodies with one soul. To have this beautiful ceremony take place at the hotel itself, poolside, and to see it come to life was truly memorable. Thanks to our wedding photographers, Cheri Wedding Photography, the moment was captured forever.
Did you have any themes for your wedding event?
It was themes galore! We had a Buddha Bar/Boiler Room cocktail night, with music from DJ Amit, a garden theme haldi, the Batmobile at the baarat, the Anand Karaj wedding by the pool, and ending it with a Chinese-themed reception (Dynasty Dinner).
What was a surprising element or what was the most creative thing you did at your wedding?
One of the groom’s best men, Karan Kothari, brought out a monkey during his best man speech at the reception. This took everyone by surprise as nobody had a single clue this was going to happen!
