Deesha Misra and Arjun Raavish contemplated the wonderful wedding Deesha had attended in Phuket nearly 10 years ago and decided they wanted something similar. What resulted was a set of precious memories with family and friends from all walks of life that they will forever cherish.
After bringing your wedding plans to life, which events were your favourite?
It was a wedding experience beyond our wildest dreams, thanks to Mandala Events. Vandana, the founder, worked with us to ensure every part of our vision made it from the moodboard into reality. My favourite events were our mehendi, haldi, and wedding décor. Mandala took the vision from these events and made it exactly, perhaps even better than, what we had imagined.
What made you decide to celebrate your wedding in Thailand, and why did this particular venue feel like the one?
We considered a lot of countries but ultimately, it was a combination of our growing guest list and wanting a proper Indian wedding with top-notch hospitality that led us to Thailand. JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa stood out to us right from the start, in part due to our vision of a water mandap in their lotus pavilion. Food was also very important to us and the F&B team at the hotel were able to work with my dad to curate an insane spread. They also accommodated a sizable number of live stations.
Was there a special moment that felt uniquely Thai during your celebration?
The welcome experience, the food (especially the mango sticky rice), massage therapists, and welcome goodies were beautifully curated by Mandala Events. My sister Tanwee also prepared tasting boxes from a Thai chocolatier, Siamaya Chocolates, who is revolutionising the cacao industry in Chiang Mai, which included a collection of delectable Thai flavours such as durian and Thai tea. Our guests really enjoyed these thoughtful goodies.
Why would you recommend Thailand as a wedding destination for other couples?
There’s no place like Thailand; people are so warm, hospitable, and kind. Even in the most stressful moments, Thai people hold themselves with dignity and kindness which makes them so enjoyable to work with. The food is incredible too. I didn’t know I had a favourite cuisine until I went to Thailand for the first time!
Give us a fun anecdote from your wedding.
During our haldi, my brothers handed out water guns and gathered all the kids for a surprise attack on Arjun. With the most serious expressions on their faces, the kids snuck up behind him and sprayed him all at once. They took their mission very seriously!
